Review

Carter Woods is a small park on Bluemound Dr just south of College Ave in Grand Chute WI. This is one of the parks my wife would take the kids to when they were younger. We would hike to this park when the kids got sick of Pierce and Alicia.

With multiple small parking lots off Bluemound to the west and a small parking lot on the east you don’t have to walk to Carter Woods. The western side of the park has pickleball/tennis courts which draw locals as pickleball has become the recent fad. The softball diamond, picnic are, and the playground are also on the west side of the park.

What draws me to the park is the woods. Down the center of the park is a wooded area, with the usually dried out stream beds that drain in to Mudd Creek. Through this wooded area are several paths and bridges to allow people to walk to the eastern side of the park.

The east side of the park has a soccer field which is serviced by the eastern parking lot. It is also the side of the park we enter when we walk to the park. Crossing the soccer field to walk through one of the paths to the play ground.

Deer are almost always in the wooded area. Afraid of people enough to keep a distance the deer can easily be seen and captured by the camera.

Small birds fly through the trees and birds of prey nest in nearby cell towers. Carter Woods Park is slow enough to be a refuge for animals living in the city.

Of note the tree line that runs through the park can be followed by wild life all the way to the fox River through the Butte Des Morte Country Club.

If your looking for a quite park in the Appleton area this would be another option.

Please enjoy these pictures I took last summer and let me know if you like any of them in the comments. Thanks again for reading my blog.

The fawn is adorable. Those city deer must feel comfortable around humans!
