This year as almost every year since my wife and I got married we are going Christmas Tree shopping. This is a tradition that she brought into the family and has persisted.
Over the years I have convinced her a couple of times to use a fake tree. The reasoning was the mess. Christmas trees drop needles and need to be watered all season long. We have had to fight to keep cats out of the tree or from playing with the ornaments. A fake tree solves some of these issues. But there is one thing that a fake tree can never replace, the experience.
The place that we go makes it an event. At the entrance of the farm there are a couple of buildings and they always have a fire. People bring their own hand or chain saws and you drag your own tree to the entrance. Some days they have a Santa near the fire who hands out candy canes and they also have hot chocolate.
We have gone as a larger family event in the past. With my brother in-laws families and their kids some times joining the fun. I can even remember going when my wife and I were just dating.
We strap the tree onto the top of our SUV and pray that its tied down enough to make the trip home. Never lost a tree yet thank God. Getting the tree home we have to trim it down. Almost always we get a tree that’s too tall for the house at first. But after a couple of strategic cuts the tree goes into the house.
Then we spend the rest of the day decorating the tree and watching Christmas movies. It’s an event that marks the beginning of the Christmas celebrations.
If you’ve never been tree hunting before and are physically able, I recommend it. Especially if you have kids, it will be an experience you won’t forget.
Feel free to share your Christmas hunting stories below. And thank you again for visiting.
I think you should crop out the two hooligans on the ends. Keep the redhead though.
LOL
Nice house, who is that weird looking town.
Not town, red head
Love the tree. Real is best.
