Review
I have seen several people post about this site on Facebook over the years. So last summer I decided to visit when my wife and kids were up in Michigan camping. I visited multiple parks that day and I will be talking about them in the future. But for today I’ll just stick with Fonferek’s Glen.

Located a couple of miles off of exit 178 on highway 43 just south of Green Bay. Drive south until the road turns west and becomes Dutchman Road. About a mile later you will cross a small stream and the parking lot will be on your right.

The park is free but do not stick around after the park closes. The gate to the parking lot is on a timer and automatically closes at sunset.

You may also want to be sure of where you are on the property. The farm house right off of the Parking lot is private property. There are also a few homes around the stream. If you visit this site make sure that you are respecting the property rights of the surrounding properties.

A gravel path leads from the parking lot and around the private barn. Behind the barn is a built up viewing area of the top of the water fall. But this is the extent of the area that is built up at the moment.

Trails warn down by foot traffic go both directions from this area. However signs indicate caution as the trails are not necessarily safe.

Last summer when I visited I followed the short paths upstream and took a few photos. I then took the longer path down stream.

Following the ridge at the top of the gorge formed by the stream I hiked about a half mile until the path lead down into the gorge. However the trails did not lead back up the bottom of the gorge.

Two high school aged girls asked me how to get up to the base of the falls but I could only guess that they would have to hike up the stream. I have seen pictures taken from the bottom of the falls but I did not find a good path on that day.

After taking all of the pictures that I thought I could get, I returned to my vehicle and left for the next waterfall.

That brings us to last week. My wife and I got out of our car and could immediately feel the blustery wind. The temps were in the high 40s and most of the snow from the previous week had melted away.

The frost was starting to melt in the earth beneath us and the water having no place to go made the gravel path soggy. We walked around the barn and approached the waterfall overlook. Ice shoves hung over the edge of the falls as the water brown with run off sediment plunged over the rocks.

We looked at the path up stream and debated our options for hiking. The beginning of the path was a giant puddle which promised to soak our shoes if we tried to walk through it. However after looking around we found a path used by other people to avoid the puddle.

But before we started I noticed a path at the bottom of the gorge I had not seen last summer. The foliage of the trees in the gorge concealed this path last summer. But the path was on the opposite side of the stream.

We started walking up stream pondering how someone would get to this path. Taking pictures of the stream above the falls I noticed that there was a path crossing the upper stream that must lead to the lower path. However with the stream choked with chilly run off from the fields to the south of the waterfall we decided not to attempt to cross the stream.

Finally after taking a few more pictures from the top of the falls, we decided to return to our vehicle. With our shoes slightly damp from the soaked gravel path we decided that we would come back another time to get photos at the base of the waterfall.

Let me know if you have ever been to Fonferek’s Glen before in the comments. And thank you again for reading my blog.
Love the waterfalls. The pic with the moss cave is cool. Also love the pic with the twisted roots.
