Recently my wife and I visited Iverson Park during a trip to the Stevens Point Area. During our trip we were happy to learn that Iverson Park is part of a larger park system in Stevens Point that are all linked with a trail called the Green Circle Trail.
Key Features:
- Over 100 acres of parkland
- Swimming area
- Hiking trails
- Plover River access
- Canoe and recreation activities rental
- Picnic areas
Review
As usual, we chose to visit Iverson Park as it was listed as having hiking trails. What we found was a large park with trails and around 10 bridges crossing the Plover River. This shallow river splits into three channels creating several islands.
On one of these islands is a beach and a canoe rental shop. Though being a cold day there were no swimmers and we did not see canoes in the river.
The entrance of the park is small and we passed it at first. This one way road into the park is near the base ball diamond and pavilions.
However the main entrance is on the west side of the park in a residential area off the main road into Stevens Point. On the west side of the park you will find sledding hills.
The east side of the park is wooded and abuts the Stevens Point Country Club. Here you can find the Girl Scout Lodge. And the paths even bring you close to the Hilltop Pub and Grill.
The South end of the park you will find the Boy Scout lodge and access to the Green Circle Trail. This is where we found the map of the Green Circle Trail. At this point we decided to walk the trail and see if we could make it to a few parks on the trail.
However after an hour of walking we decided to turn around and walk home. Iverson Park and the Green Circle Trail were great for walking. My wife and I definitely want to return and walk some more of the trail. In addition to running along the Plover river there are sections near the Wisconsin River.
If you have visited Iverson Park and or walked the Green Circle Trails please comment below.
I love any place with bridges. This place has so many unique ones! Loved hiking there.
