Recently my wife and I stopped by Dave’s Falls on our way back from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This rest stop of a county park is among fifteen different water falls in Marinette County WI.
Key Features of Dave’s Falls
Dave’s Falls is a picturesque waterfall located in Marinette County, Wisconsin, just south of Amberg. Here are some key facts about it:
- Location: Along U.S. Highway 141 between Old 38 Road and Old Highway 141 Road.
- Named after: Dave Frechette, a lumberjack who tragically drowned there in 1881.
- Features: A scenic waterfall, rock formations, a playground, and restroom facilities.
- Accessibility: The park entrance and parking lot are paved, making it easily accessible.
- Hiking: There’s a short, easy trail leading to the falls, ideal for families.
- Nearby Attractions: Other waterfalls like Long Slide Falls, Smalley Falls, and Piers Gorge are within a short driving distance.
Review
The entrance to this park has ample parking for visitors. It is built up for an initially easy hike. However after a quick hill and a set of stairs to the rivers edge the terrain gets very rocky.
A bridge over the center of the rapids allows access to the other side of the falls but the terrain gets more hazardous as you go.
But the view is worth the effort. Shallow pools collect above the falls and rapids. One of the pools even has a small sandy beach.
Some down falls to this location are the paths look easy enough. However an uneven surface can take you by surprise and you may roll an ankle. The turn off is on a low point in between two hills which can make it hard to find and a pain to leave. Also you are required to pay 5 dollars to park.
We’ve been to Dave’s Falls a couple of times. The stop is an enjoyable rest on a long drive. We will be stopping there again in the future.
