This week we visited Schildt Park in Fox Crossing WI. We have rented the pavilion at this park for summer family events several times in the past.

Key Features

  • Large Rental Pavilion: The park features a sizable pavilion that can accommodate 100–200 people. It is equipped with electrical outlets and a kitchen (available for an additional fee) including a stove, refrigerator, and sink, making it a go-to spot for family reunions and graduation parties.
  • Multi-Sport Courts: Schildt Park is a favorite for local athletes, offering a variety of well-maintained courts including:
    • Basketball Court
    • Beach Volleyball Court
  • Paved Walking & Bike Path: A paved trail winds through the park, connecting to the broader village trail system. It is a popular spot for walkers, joggers, and cyclists looking for a scenic but accessible route.
  • Community Gardens: One of the park’s unique highlights is the Fox Crossing Community Gardens. Residents can rent plots to grow their own vegetables and flowers, with water access provided on-site.
  • Modern Playground Equipment: The park includes a large “leisure playground” area with modern climbing structures and slides designed for children of various ages.
  • Summer Entertainment Series: The park serves as a venue for the Village’s Summer Entertainment Series, hosting free live music and family performances (like Randy Peterson or Tom Pease) during the warmer months.
  • Natural Scenery & Wildlife: Despite being near residential areas, the park features a pond, a small stream, and wooded sections that provide a tranquil retreat for birdwatching or enjoying the local flora.
  • Sports Fields: The park includes open green spaces often used for youth sports, including a soccer field and areas suitable for casual baseball or kickball games.
  • Winter Recreation: While primarily a summer destination, Schildt Park’s open spaces and paths are often used for winter walking and the park is occasionally used for community winter events.
  • Convenient Amenities: To support long stays, the park is equipped with:
    • Public Restrooms (typically open May through October)
    • A Large Parking Lot for easy access
    • Picnic Tables and Grills located throughout the grounds

Review

When we woke up yesterday it was snowing pretty good. So I scrapped our original plan for a hike suggested by my wife. The plan was to walk the short paths in Schildt Park. Then we would hike along Cold Spring Rd to Shady Ln, turn west to Hwy CB, turn south back to W American Drive, finally returning to Cold Spring Rd and ending back at Schildt Park.

However as usual the weather determined our course. But I get ahead of myself.

We started at the park as we planned. Taking pictures of the bridge over the stream and other land marks. With the snow blowing we used an umbrella and a waterproof hiking pouch to protect the camera.

My wife wondered about the wildlife we would see. I doubted we would see many birds with the blowing snow. But as we reached the gravel path behind the community garden I caught a picture of a squirrel. He hunkered down in the small trees between the park and an apartment complex.

After getting a few more pictures of the park we arrived at Cold Spring Rd. We turned north and started hiking along the sidewalk. With about a half inch of snow we could see fresh footprints of the hikers and joggers that passed before us.

After a short hike we got to Shady Ln. But our first issue of the day popped up. There is no sidewalk between Cold Spring Rd and Hwy CB on Shady Ln.

We instead turned East to instead walk to W American Dr and follow that road back to Cold Spring Rd. However as we walked the wind and snow started to pick up. Then my wives sock started to feel wet and with her having a minor cold we decided to turn around. Though we made it halfway to W American Dr.

We returned to the park cutting our hike a little shorter that we thought. Though I was able to get a few more pictures of the stream running through the park and the pond.

This park is a nice little park and with trails along most of the roads in the area this is a great place to hike. In fact many of the the Friendship Trail and CB trail are with in a half mile hike from this park.

We will be returning to this park with more family events planned for this summer. Thanks again for reading and please leave a comment below.
